SUMMARY:2nd Annual Interdisciplinary Voice Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A two-day meeting exploring the voice at Newnham College\, University of Cambridge\nVoice studies is an emerging area of research with numerous opportunities for cross- and interdisciplinary collaboration. Its areas of focus range from basic questions in auditory perception and motor control\, to disability and identity\, to the aesthetics and politics of vocality\, and to advances in technological applications\, such as automatic speech recognition. SUMMARY:Hearing Loss and Dementia Research Workshop
DESCRIPTION:RNID (the Royal National Institute for Deaf People) and Alzheimer’s Research UK are hosting an online workshop to highlight the current research in the hearing loss and dementia field. The event will consist of talks from Dr Nicolas Michalski\, Prof Sally Dawson\, Prof Jason Warren and Dr Sergi Costafreda Gonzalez. This will be followed by a panel Q&A session chaired by Dr Bob Carlyon and an opportunity to discuss key research themes in hearing loss and dementia. SUMMARY:Royal Society Meeting: Realising the Potential of Cochlear Implants
DESCRIPTION:Cochlear implants (CIs) restore hearing to deaf people by electrically stimulating the auditory nerve (AN). This meeting will focus on the limitations and successes of CIs and on new methods for improving them. Topics include new methods of stimulating the AN\, measuring AN survival so as to aid patient-specific processing\, understanding the brain changes that occur when hearing is restored by a CI\, and how to best combine CI stimulation with residual acoustic hearing. \nThe meeting will be held at Eastwood Hall just outside Nottingham\, UK\, and there will be a poster session in addition to the programme of invited talks. Full details\, including information on how to apply\, are now available on the Royal Society’s webpage for the meeting\, available at this link. \nRegistration will be free but attendees will pay for their own food and accommodation. \nThe programme is as follows:

DESCRIPTION:The MIC (Methods in Cochlear implant) research meeting is coming up! \nThe purpose of the MIC meeting is to gather young researchers working with cochlear implants to learn best research practice as well as providing an opportunity for networking in an informal environment. \nThe meeting will consist of one day of methods seminars and will take place on June 5th 2020 in Cambridge\, UK. \nThere will be multiple sessions covering best practices in statistics\, psychophysics and objective measures. We are planning to have a combination of overview talks by experts\, as well as talks (with practical examples) given by junior researchers employing new and exciting techniques in the field.\nThe day ends with a dinner.
